Free Scholarship for Ethiopian Students Germany DAAD
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the largest funding organization in the world supporting the international exchange of students and scholars. It is a registered association and its members are German institutions of higher education and student bodies. Its activities go far beyond simply awarding grants and scholarships – Free Scholarship for Ethiopian Students Germany DAAD.
The scholarships offer foreign graduates from development and newly industrialized countries from all disciplines and with at least two years’ professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognized German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.
The DAAD’s aims and objectives in Ethiopia are:
- To advance international academic exchange and establish networks
- To provide information and counseling.
- To promote the German higher education area through
– print and electronic publications
– special events (alumni meetings etc.)
– participation in higher education fairs
- To grant organizational and (limited) financial support to universities
- To award scholarships and grants
In 2018, over 1077 Ethiopian and German postgraduate students, lecturers, researchers, and higher education administrators were supported through DAAD. The DAAD is a close partner of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education with regard to the Engineering Education Capacity Building Programme (EECBP) which is managed and funded by the Ministry.
Field of Study offered by the Scholarship
Masters or PhD courses in Economic Sciences/Business Administration/Political Economics; Development Cooperation; Engineering and Related Sciences; Mathematics; Regional and Urban Planning; Agricultural and Forest Sciences; Natural and Environmental Sciences; Medicine and Public Health; Social Sciences, Education and Law; and Media Studies. The scholarship will be hosted by German Universities offering development-related postgraduate courses.
Scholarship Duration & Supports
The scholarship duration is 12 to 24 months (depending on the particular institution) for Masters and 36 months for PhD. The scholarships include monthly payments of 850 euros for graduates or 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates; payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover; and travel allowance unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding.
Who can Apply for the Scholarship?
An applicant who holds a Bachelor’s degree (normally four years) in a related subject. Has completed an academic degree with far above average results (upper third) and ideally at least two years of related professional experience after the first degree (bachelor). His/her academic degrees should normally not be more than six years old. For courses in English: IELTS (Band 6) certificate or TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, 80 internet-based)
How to Apply for the Scholarship?
